How to Improve your Interview Skills & Behaviours

Before the interview:

• Spend time to know yourself
• Research the job and the company – what they do and how they do it, using all resources available to you, including any information sent to you by the company with the application. Research the company and related websites
• Fix a salary figure in your mind – you may want to remain negotiable
• Prepare for possible interview questions, structure your answers and expand on each point with your personal experience
• Dress the part
• Arrive early

During the interview:

• Greet the panel appropriately
• Be confident, polite and use appropriate language
• Be mindful of your body language – maintain a good posture, own the space, limit you hand and arm movement, smile, maintain eye contact and mirror the interviewers behaviour.
• When answering questions asking for examples, use the STAR approach
• Inspire confidence in your abilities
• Stay calm and be genuine
• Ask Questions – ask relevant questions during and at the end of the interview

After the interview:

• Thank the panel for the opportunity to meet with them
• Optional: Send a follow-up thank you letter
